Thursday, February 28, 2013, the FacLab ( fablab the University of Cergy-Pontoise, Gennevilliers ) received the visit of Jean-Marc Ayrault, Prime Minister, accompanied by Flower Pellerin (Minister Delegate to the Minister of Recovery productive, responsible Small and Medium Business, Innovation and the Digital Economy), Geneviève Fioraso (Minister for Higher Education and Research), Nicole Bricq(Minister of Trade) and Victorin Lurel (Minister of Overseas ), not forgetting Mr. Pierre-André Peyvel, prefect of Hauts de Seine, in full uniform. François Germinet, President of the University, has guided all these people (and many other accompanying with a bunch of journalists) to our magical den to pass the baton to Emmanuelle Roux, Laurent and Olivier Ricard Gendrin.

Goji berry experiment : Ningxia goji from seeds

Lycium barbarum (simplified Chinese: 宁夏枸杞; traditional Chinese: 寧夏枸杞; pinyin: Níngxià gǒuqǐ) is one of two species of boxthorn in the familySolanaceae from which the goji berry or wolfberry is harvested, the other being Lycium chinense (Chinese: 枸杞; pinyin: gǒuqǐ). It is native to southeastern Europe and Asia.^[2]

Introduction: 

A friend purchased a goji berry plant from a plant shop in France.  It looked like dead twigs after 3 years, nothing happened, not much leaves, almost inactive.

So, since I am a Chinese person, she asked me.

I took a few cuttings from the plant, large, smaller, thin.  Several and put them in a glass of water.
My mother has goji berry plant growing wild in her garden in Canada.  She prepared twigs for me, and they take roots v quickly.

So I just did the same.

Here is what these twigs look like after 2 weeks.

started some goji berry seeds:  Ningxia Goji berry.  
The high grade, medicinal use dried grain goji berries are very sweet, tastes good.
So I started soaking some in a little cup.  Then removed all the pulps and put the seeds on a cotton wad, then no sunlight.  See what happens.

So there are two experiemnts:
1// cutting from a 2, 3 yr old plant purchased in France.  Dont know what type it is.
2// Ningxia goji berries from seeds.  Seeds were purchased in China from a food shop.  Medicinal grade.

Day 1.  19aug2015

The twigs are from a plant purchased in France, been in the pot for 2, 3 years, without any flowers, this is the first time it flowered.
Both the original plant had flowers and cuttings here, also flowered.

Goji berry (Lycium barbarum) or Wolfberry is a deciduous shrub with an arching thorny branch.  It has little purple flowers that turn beige before the petals drop.  The berries turn from green to orange then bright red when they’re fully ripe.  Fresh, ripe Goji berry has a very interesting taste, not sweet, not sour but meaty (for lack of a better word) for such a small berry.  I think the sweetness of the dried berries come from the dehydration process perhaps.

Hopefully I’ll get more berries next year but between the Gray Catbirds and Cedar Waxwings I may not have any berries left.  I’m not sure I can beat the winged competition.

3D-PRINTING

Our choice of 3d-printing technology is stereolithography* because of its exceptional printing definition and the resistance of its printed objects.
*Stereolithography is a 3D printing technology used for producing models, prototypes, patterns, and production parts up one layer at a time by curing a photo-reactive resin with a UV laser or another similar power source.

POST-PRINTING TREATMENT: DEBURRING

At this stage, all the excess resin from the printing stage is manually removed. Then precision tools are used to perfectly complete this phase.

POST-PRINTING TREATMENT: CLEANING AND BLOWING

The body of the instrument is cleaned with a cleaning solution and high pressure blowing.

POST-PRINTING TREATMENT: UV POLYMERIZATION

This step aims to protect the instrument from external harm by completely polymerizing the violin’s structure.

SURFACE TREATMENT

Surfaces in contact with the strings and the musician’s body are sanded with extreme precision to ensure sound purity and offer optimal playing comfort.

FINAL ASSEMBLY

This is the most delicate step, as it is the first time when the structure of the violin is subjected to actual string pressure. The stringing and tuning must be done progressively and be perfectly symmetrical to attain the perfect chord.

Crude oil flow spurted out of the Well No.1 in Karamay on October 29, 1955, declaring the birth of the first large oil field of new China. Located at the Well No.1, the oil bubbles sculpture consisting of big stainless steel oil bubbles and small ones will open from late August.
