FIRST SOLO EXHIBITION | VALERIE BACH GALLERY

FIRST SOLO EXHIBITION | VALERIE BACH GALLERY

Dates: 07 November 2014 - 20 December 2014
Venue: 2014 Valérie Bach Gallery, Brussels, Belgium
Country: Belgium
Type: Solo Exhibition
Lucy + Jorge Orta are pleased to announce their first solo exhibition at Valérie Bach Gallery in Brussels, from November 6 to December 20, 2014.
Following on from their major summer exhibition FOOD / WATER / LIFE, at the Parc de la Villette in Paris (May 21 to September 21, 2014), the Valérie Bach Gallery will present a collection of artworks spanning the two artists respective careers from 1980 to 2014. The works on show draw from the themes of ecology and social sustainability, and include coloured glass and cast aluminium vitrines and wall works from the series FoodEpicerie and Milk–, assemblage resin sculptures from the series Clouds, as well as two polychrome bronze sculptures from their new body of work Spirits.
Works from the artists archive Rosario 1972–1984, not previously exhibited will also be part of this important solo exhibition in Brussels.
Through the multiple facets of their practice, Lucy + Jorge Orta continue to question the role of the artist, seeking ways for art to play and active role in society, and more precisely, “catalyst art” that is able to blend with daily life and activate from within, to idealize each living gesture. For the Ortas, artists are not observers of the world, they are actively engaged with it, they are “operators of awareness”.
Private view on November 6, from 6 to 9pm, in the presence of the artists
