People are saying this girl singer in red dress at new year festival is like a robot, while Di is doing his best. But I think, here is a song, that Di cannot deploy much of his vocalisation.
Teresa Teng is a super star, i dont think its fair to the girl to compare this girls singing to Teresas.
The girl at the festival did as best as she could under the circumstances, we dont know what the conditions were. If Dimash spoke Chinese, not phonetically only, the performance of the song might have been different, could be saved. Sometimes you get a very lively gd singer, you could have a less lively person for the duet. Like in these comedic duets, you always have one guy who did all the gd lively talks and the other is much more subdued who acts as a reflective board. Here, not possible because both are in lacking. Roles have not been performed with a clear intention.
The problem w this presentation is, that the song is not suitable for a man.
It's a sweet song sung by a girl to a man who wants the attention of the girl. its a really cute song for bars, where the girl would sing this, asking where, howvcome he looks so familiar, oh, where, where have she seen him before? a little bit puppy love too. Oh, it must be in her dream! Its a flirty song for someone who would really like to have the attention of the girl. V famous song sung by Teresa Teng.
To sing this well, you have to be light, sweet flirty and sing w hidden innuendos.
This is not suitable for a man. And the girl could sing sweetly too, but I dont understand why they sang like this together.
Was the girl someone that was instructed to be in a song? etc etc you dont know.
But I couldn't listen to the song. totally destroys the original song and also did not do Dimash any good, the girl sang, she was not a robot. She did her part, she does not need to carry the blame.

I listen to this v carefully now, the Dimash singing has a lack of expression. Its because he is singing phonetically? When in a song like this, you must put in expressions. Hes put his soft breathy whisper into a love song. That's as good as it gets, unless he could put expression into the words. In the version w the yg girl singer, I couldn't listen to it more than a few sec. The whole song was like cotton candy.
Here Teresa's voice and expression carries the song. Di has not much room to display vocalisation. This problem exists for Deep Autumn as well. Deep Autumn has soft melancholic lyrics, you dont scream into high vocals into a song like this, you could put expression into the voice. Listen to the original song writers version, or Jacky Cheungs version, they both have this feeling in the lyrics. Dimashs did not have the expression, but he put his feelings into the vocalisation parts. Especially good version is the one in St. Petersburg where he wore a long black robe, he looks so tired, but this tireness fits the song. He incites love and care.
In Deep Autumn, he had a longer stretch and could deploy various vocalisations, but as a song also is a little weird.

I didn't like Teresa Teng when i was younger because she was too popular, now i re listen and she is so good. She sang some English songs too v gd! She incites soft love and kindness, just what all people needs.

French fans have submitted a translation of the lyrics, this is the trnaslations, textual. But it is not enough info - the singer would not have enough material to sing a pop flirty song phonetically. Translations only is insufficient to understand how the song should be sung in Chinese. How was this song explained to Dimash? On the other hand, i have not heard Dimash singing love songs in a flirting way, its only in a sentimental memory type of way. Dimash does not sing flirty running after a girl type of song.
Difficult to sing in a foreign language if the details are off, esp its a pop song, this is not opera, opera is a condensed emotion, even if you didnt know what the lyrics are, you could still get the emotions. but in a delicate pop song,you almost have to know the lingo to get the double meanings in the lyrics.
