Chen QiuShi, The Voice and other famous mouths.
Chen Qiushi was the winner of national public speaker contest in China on a popular tv show - his speech is shiny, humorous and intelligent. So wasteful ... I watched a recent documentary by Werner Herzog on Chernoby, a docu on Gorbachev. I start to understand more about how problem solving in exceptional contexts are carried out. Only watched half, will continue today. Recommended for all. What are the true values of documentaries? For me, sometimes it is to see how other people do things and find what we are doing that could be done otherwise. More choices and possibilities because "nothing new in, nothing new out" and "garbage in garbage out". In todays age, where information is so easily available if you bothered to take some time to look for data and we are so privileged to have access which was not the case pre-internet days. On the other hand that is why we have all these hoax and fake news too. In the end its a question of time, it takes time to sort out - what have you got in your bag? And what to do about it? What to do if you have insufficient data? And a question of time frame - I see these videos pitch - often used by students in their video projects because it looks smashingly beautiful. A beaker of clear water, swirl some black-blue ink into it, and film the cloudy threads of color merging into the liquid. Looks kind of poetic, uncontrolable, airy, pretty - and then, voice off - something philosophical borrowed from somewhere. Usually about life etc. These days, no documentary, nevermind about fiction films, all pale against real life happening around us - and me, just like everyone else watching in the comfort of our homes.
