Vector Graphics : Expression 3

Vector Graphics : Expression 3 Creature House 2003, Mischief 2013

I purchase this software in 2003, and never had time to play w it.
As I remembered it, its got some very interesting vector graphics, you could draw a ballerinas feet and use it as a stroke.  But never had time to use it.

Today, I found it in my closet.
Took it out, put it into my machine
guess what, there is nothing on the cd, zero.  As if its clean, ready to be rewritten.

This is the kind of thing that is quite shocking w electronic storage.
I try to see if the software is available else where.

I am nostalgic about old friends, old clothes, old toys, vintage mechanical objects.  There must have been a gd reason that I have chosen all these things.

3d printing at Creative Handicap: Sylvie Sanchez, Christophe Weber; Marocain yg man and his Korean wife at a bakery

https://www.facebook.com/Swannbb/posts/10154264199945108

Visit to Creative Handicap, met Sylvie the director.  She showed me some eyeglasses with a few holes to explain what a particular type of "malvoyant" mean - people who sees things all focused in dispersion.  I talked about the pinhole glasses that I had made many years ago and the pinhole glasses that I have in my possession.

Sylvie said that her art center gives people a secondlife life.  She does recycled art, and "recycles people" make them feel useful again.  She was cutting up a deer hoof at the sink.  A taxidermist, she uses hunters left overs.  Feet, head, and make into paintings.  Also recycles ladies shoes into art work.  Its a fun, warm and lively place.

Her studio is open from 2 to adults, everybody is welcome to create.  To give meaning to the things they see around them and doing things together.

A fine visit to Asnieres.

I took the RER D, train has problem - its the 4th incident within the last month.

RER A, C, D all three had problems, everyday. Someone was sick, electricity centre had a crash, the tramway track had obstacles.

Pick pockets, people being sold correspondant train tickets thats impossible to take... 90eur lost... etc etc.

Went to a bakery, a Maroccan bakery because, not only they had the french baquette, they had these round flat breads. The yg man who served had big pretty eyes.  He asked me where I was from.  I said HK, He said, your country is very beautiful, big, I travelled to Xian, rah rah rah, he named many cities with correct Chinese pronounciation, I was v amazed.  I asked when he visited?  He said when he was a student.  And he married a South Korean woman, to ask the hand of his wife, he went to Korea with her.  Since they are going so far, they decided to take a trip to China on the way.  They bought a Lets Go guide, And stayed at hotels with one star, or no star.  But so fantastic beautiful, every city so different.  He explained since he knows no Chinese, he was at a restaurant, he said, he communicated like this, he crossed his arms in front of his chest and made Chicken noises, no chicken; then again, Cow noise; no beef; then again, pig sound.  The owner understood and made him a big nice fresh salade with corn - it was delicious he said.  Then he went to Korea.  He wrote 100 cv, only 4 answered.  2 were no.  1, said yes, but please wait.  Then, no.  Contract cannot be carried out.  Last one, the president of the company said, I am sorry, we had internal complaint, they say, we have so many young people with no job, why do you give a job to a foreigner?  No.  So to not create problems at his company, he cannot offer him the job.  He said to me, he tried, right?  He tried to show maximum effort for his inlaws, but did not succeed.  So they came to France, and now he has two children, everything is perfect.  Very good.  And I hope to meet you again!  He said.

Such a handsome, smart, bright, cheerful and humanly correct young guy.  Which parent would not want him to be son in law?

Pin Hole Glasses

top: purchased in Toronto 2016, bottom I hand drilled, 2004
The top one has much smaller holes, and the ones I made were testing models, I had no data for the measurement of the holes, just experimented in a flash.
I took a pair of sunglasses, and drilled holes approx in the lens, then hand painted the glass with nail polish lacquer to make it black to block light.
I wanted to know - how and why does it work? Does it really work?

The unaided weak eye without Pinhole Glasses
In a weak eye, light rays entering the eye's lens are not all focused onto the same place on the retina. For example rays a b f g, require more focusing by the lens to hit the same plane as rays c d e, which are nearer to the centre. Rays c d e are usually always in focus, regardless of the condition of the eye, and form a clear image on the retina. This clear image is flooded by the blurred image known as the "blur circle" formed by rays a b f g.
The unaided weak eye with Pinhole Glasses
When the pinhole lens is used, only rays c d e are allowed to form an image on the retina and no blur circle is present to block the clear image. Consequently, by using a lens with multiple pinholes, many focused images form on the retina and a clear, natural image is seen. Also, no effort is required from the eye muscles, as the only rays entering the eye are already in focus. Hence there is a dramatic consequential, relaxing effect.

Good day to you two,
What a hoot. I have just come back from the optomertrist after having my eyes checked and he is STILL scratching his head! He does not understand how my eyesight seems to be imptoviong at the ripe old age of 77 and he definitely was not interested in investigating my pinhole glasses !!

Just look through any pin-hole and you'll see what they mean. When you do this, blurred images become focused. This is because the amount of peripheral light rays (which are responsible for blurring) is reduced. With appropriately spaced multiple pin-holes, you'll get clear straight vision without the difficulty of concentrating on a single hole. Regular use of these special pinhole glasses helps exercise eye muscles and helps eyes relax at the end of a tiring day and thus has a beneficial effect. Particularly useful for those who spend a great deal of time looking at computer and/or TV screens, Pinhole Glasses help retrain your eye muscles, just as other forms of exercise retrain muscles elsewhere.More Info Here

What are Pinhole Glasses For?
1. Prevent Computer Vision Syndrome - if you use computers a lot you will recognize the signs: eye strain, dry eyes, fatigue, headache, blurry vision and double vision. This is all down to intense near point stress. Computer glasses can reduce the glare from the monitor, help relax the eyes, increase depth of field, and increase your natural focusing power (also known as accommodation).
• Because of the way pinholes minimize light to the eye, they work well as sunglasses or for extremely bright conditions. They also work well in reducing the visual stress of lengthy computer work
2. Relieve Eye Strain and Improve Your Vision - when I wear pinhole eyeglasses, I get a clear long distance focus without any eye strain. This is very supportive for reducing myopia. In fact, some users report that wearing pinhole glasses for just 15 minutes a day can noticeably improve your vision in 4 weeks. If you have farsightedness, you need simply read and write with pinholes on, while nearsighted people need just sit back and watch TV wearing pinholes.
Cataracts People with cataracts often see better through pinholes. A cataract doesn't allow light to enter the eye properly. Pinholes often improve the vision even with the existence of the cataracts.
Specialty Glasses
"When used for reading or other close work, pinholes reduce the amount of accommodation or focusing power that the eye must use to see clearly. There is an abundant amount of research that points the finger at excessive accommodation as the cause of acquired myopia.
It is clear that anything that can reduce this accommodative effort, including pinhole glasses, is a useful weapon in retaining good vision. It is for this reason, and the fact that those in the optical business want nothing to do with them, that we have decided to promote the use of pinholes on this website. These glasses could be a major tool in preventing myopia.
Its well proven Pinhole glasses make it easier to read and do other close-up work. They easily take the place of expensive prescriptions glasses, and they are durable enough to last a lifetime.
Hi there,
Well you did warn me! Even though you encouraged me to start slowly with the glasses and use them for just a few minutes each time I took the bull by the horns and did two hours to start with. As you predicted the muscles in the back of my eyes felt just like my legs when I first went back to running and overextended them! However they quickly settled down and I have really been aware of the improvement in my eyesight so even when I forget to take any glasses I can still read the menu in the restaurant.

FacLab: Clamp 2017 logbook (work in progress)

FacLab: details of prototype of a mobile qin table leg.

Project: Using the C-Clamp table leg as a viable mobile guqin table.

This is the original prototype, just for fun, using transparent elements to make a special object.

The first 3d printed rod attachments were printed v v thin, 3 layers of thread, due to our deadline time requirements.  It took 3 hrs to print a minimum extremely fragile and thin shell for a short sample.  Also the filament were old and snapped like spaghetti when I tried to change the threads- due to burns and clogs of print heads.

So we printed twice the screw rod attachment - it turns out roughly.  Good enough for a presentation model, not for use.  Just for mock up.

It takes a lot of time to 3d print any object.  For example, 6 hours for a moderately strong screw rod of 17cm, dia 25mm

So, we print out just a section of a sample to see if it works, such as a short 1cm length of nut, and screw.  And that, takes 30mn each.

Once you are satisfied with the smoothness, the tolerance, acceptable finish, then you go to the perfection stage.

As of the mock up, in theory it should work.

The electricity, adriuno, black light components were not quite ready at time of presentation.  Due to unforeseeable complications.  (see details in adriuno report by the other two members of the team.  My clamp design is purely a test of form and function and method with numerical production tools.  Mainly the 3d printer.)

Originally there was a part that has an extendible cover for the transparent leg, however that kind of failed due to lack of heat gun, folding machines, and in general problems with material.  So that was abandonned.

As it takes a lot of time to perfect an esthetic object.  Before it becomes "esthetic" it does not exist as such.

The amount of time we had were enough for making something that works and demonstrates that it works.
But to make an esthetic object, that takes much more time.
